How do I get healthy, glowing skin? Tips for every day skincare.

Skin is the bodies largest organ, and it plays a crucial role in protecting us from the outside world.

(repeat after me) skincare is non-negotiable.

It isn't just about putting stuff on your face. We have to approach skincare holistically, from the inside out and top to toe. Aki Sunday is committed to providing education around skincare.

Here are our tips for every day care (and the why). It doesn't have to be an elaborate routine, you just have to give yourself the commitment you deserve.

Wash your face at the basin morning & night. We tend to run our showers too hot for the delicate skin on our faces, this exacerbates dryness and skin irriation.

Change your bedding regularly. Dead skin cells and oils build up on our bedding and pillow cases, harbouring bacteria which can cause skin irritation and infection.

Clean your makeup brushes & beauty tools. For the same reasons you need to change your bedding regularly, dead skin cells and oils build up - you also get product build up which is swarming with bacteria.

Invest in great quality products with high efficacy ingredients (like our Universal Body Oil). You want to use ingredients that work. Our Universal Body Oil uses high quality ingredients that compliment each other and work WITH your skin to give you the best of our product.

Start taking collagen supplements. Your natural collagen production starts to decrease in your 20's and by your 30’s, the signs of aging become more visible. Collagen is important for your whole body, including your muscles, ligaments and organs to name a few.

Drink plenty of water. Good hydration is key to overall health. When you’re dehydrated, your skin loses its elasticity, making fine lines more visible and your skin looking dull. Drinking plenty of water throughout the day helps blood circulation and hydrates your skin from the inside. If you struggle to drink enough, try flavouring with fruit or drink herbal tea (which gives you even more benefits).

Eat the rainbow and good fats (i.e. avocado, salmon, nuts). Eating a wide variety of fruits and veggies ensures you're getting a broad spectrum of vitamins and minerals. Antioxidant rich foods fight off free-radicals (meaning better skin and a healthier you) and good fats give you your omegas which nourish your skin from the inside and reduce inflammation (also excellent for your heart, brain and overall health).

Introduce beauty tools to your routine. Tools such as gua sha or facial rollers help to reduce inflammation and puffiness by draining your lymphatic system. Being made from stainless steel or stone, they are also very cooling. They also increase circulation, giving you glowing, healthy skin.

Stop touching your face. Touching your face increases the risk of spreading infection (cold, flu etc) - you also introduce oils, dirt and bacteria to your face which can lead to skin infections and blemishes.

New routines take time to establish & some skincare ingredients take a little bit of time to start noticing the difference. Keep going!
